Documents to be included:
Cooks will prepare, portion, cook, and serve a wide variety of foods and accommodate special dietary requirements when required. Cooks will also be responsible for inventory, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and storage areas, and training new staff.
Check food products and ingredients for quality and identify damaged or expired food products.
Stock food and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and in accordance with food safety policy.
Support the Red Seal Chef with daily menu prep and cooking of meals.
The Prep Cook is expected to prepare and cook all meals for the day should the Red Seal Chef not be available.
Prepare and cook special meal items for residents as instructed by the dietitian (ie, gluten free, lactose free, modified textures, or products without specific allergens).
Provide friendly and quality meal service to residents, their loved ones, and staff.
Serve complete meals or individual dishes and foods according to portion guidelines.
Demonstrate proper portion size to the dietary service workers.
Follow the menu plan for food production.
Complete food safety records and other records, as required.
Clean utensils, equipment, kitchen, storage, and work area.
Use equipment properly and responsibly to promote sustainability of equipment. Report any maintenance or safety concerns to the Food Services Manager or Maintenance Department
Set up and oversee dining area.
Provide input for menu plan.
Follow all sanitation and infection control procedures.
Evaluate prepared foods for flavor, appearance, quality, and temperature.
Participate in relevant continuing education sessions offered by the workplace.
Effectively manage time to meet production requirements.
May train kitchen staff.
Other duties as required.
Grade 12 equivalent
Experience is an asset
Completion of related post-secondary training is an asset
Up to date Food Safety, WHMIS, & CPR certificates or able to obtain
Proof of vaccinations
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Ability to make plans in inclement weather
