Hurricanes Weekend Recap - October 18-19, 2025
By Reegan MacAulay
The 内射大奶 Hurricanes have experienced their winningest weekend of the 2025-26 collegiate athletics season thus far, which featured regular-season finales for all fall sports.
Across five sports, the Hurricanes won five of six games, captured one regular-season championship, and posted strong results in cross-country action.
Here’s the scoop from a busy two days at home and on the road – Saturday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Oct. 19 – for the Hurricanes in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) and Atlantic Football League (AFL) competition.
Women’s SoccerFor the second time in three years, the women’s soccer Hurricanes are ACAA regular-season champions and enter the 2025 ACAA Women’s Soccer Championships, which they host, as the first seed after back-to-back high-scoring shutout victories.
This past weekend saw continued offensive dominance by leading scorers Karissa George (second-year midfielder, New Glasgow, P.E.I.) and Kristyn Taylor (third-year winger, Travellers Rest, P.E.I.), an uprise in secondary scoring that included a first-career goal, and outstanding defensive efforts, all compiling for championship showings against the conference’s two worst teams.
“It’s great (to lock in first seed),” head coach Jonathan Vos said after Sunday’s win against Dalhousie. “We needed a little bit of luck with other (league) results to secure that first place, and we took care of our own business.”
Saturday, October 18 – 6-0 W @ Crandall University Chargers
The Hurricanes started their final stretch with a trip to Crandall University in Moncton, N.B., on Saturday to battle the last-place Crandall Chargers, and returned home with a crucial three points, courtesy of a 6-0 win.
George put Holland on the board first with an early goal, which was the only one on the scoresheet by halftime. The Hurricanes exploded for five goals in the second half, with George, Taylor, fourth-year fullback Carrie Docherty (Belfast, P.E.I.), and second-year fullback Anna Kennaley (Bridgeville, N.S.) adding to Holland’s eventual rout. Docherty’s goal was her first in the ACAA.
Second-year goalkeeper Tasha Kowalchuk (Meadowbank, P.E.I.) earned the win in goal. Holland improved to 9-1-1, while Crandall dropped to 0-12-0, ultimately ending their season winless.
Sunday, October 19 – 5-0 W vs Dalhousie Rams
The Hurricanes wrapped up their regular-season campaign in unsurprising fashion in front of their fans on Sunday at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, P.E.I., with the sixth-ranked Dalhousie Rams in town.
Before the game, five players were acknowledged as graduating seniors, including George, Kowalchuk, second-year forward Rachel McNutt (Oxford, N.S.), second-year fullback Jorja Shields (Tignish, P.E.I.), and fourth-year goaltender Jordyn Pratt (Calgary, Alberta). Congratulations and thank you to all!
“The players moving on were really committed to us; some we’ve only seen for two years. They’ve been great ambassadors for the program. If we can’t get them back here, I hope to see them move on and continue their careers somewhere else,” Vos said.
It took three minutes for George to add another goal to an incredible season-long performance. Then, in a span of two minutes between 9’ and 11’, Taylor fired home two goals just outside the goal area. George would make it a four-goal Hurricanes lead in the 34th minute and later complete the hat trick in the 75th minute, ending her sophomore campaign with 13 goals and 28 points, the most in the conference.
In addition to their lethal offense, Holland rarely allowed Dalhousie into their own zone. While the Rams did gain some energy early in the second half, they were unable to dethrone an unstoppable Hurricanes squad. Vos noted some tactics and formation changes that went into this performance compared to the last time the Hurricanes faced the Rams.
“We tried to throw something different at (Dalhousie) to see how they’d deal with it. All 11 (of our players) were healthy and playing, so that helped as well. Last time, we didn’t have our full 11 against them,” Vos said.
Pratt scored the win in goal. Holland improved to 10-1-1, while Dalhousie closed the season at 2-10-0 without a playoff spot.
With more points earned this weekend and this season than MSVU, the Hurricanes will be the top team heading into the regionals next weekend. Their quest for their eighth ACAA championship and their third in five years, on top of their ninth nationals berth, begins next Saturday, Oct. 25. In that day’s first-vs-fourth semifinal match, they will play the UNBSJ Seawolves. More to come in our next weekend preview.

Men’s SoccerThe men’s soccer Hurricanes had an amazing end to an unlucky regular-season campaign, headlined by a pair of energetic victories in Moncton, N.B., and Cornwall, P.E.I.
Even with a second consecutive postseason absence on the back of players’ minds, the squad showed they wanted to end the season strong and prove their potential for a monumental comeback in 2026.
“Having a varsity career, playing post-secondary sports, you only get so many years at it, so you take a lot of pride in the institution you play for,” head coach Jonathan Vos said after Sunday’s triumph. “These guys showed that this season. They competed in every game and gave their best. No matter the situation, they played with a lot of pride.”
Saturday, October 18 – 3-2 W @ Crandall University Chargers
Holland caught the fourth-ranked – at the time – Crandall Chargers off guard when they visited them on Saturday for their final road game this season, with their win playing a significant role in Crandall’s postseason hopes.
The Chargers opened the scoring in the ninth minute, with the Hurricanes striking back in the 19th minute. Things remained level at halftime. Holland took a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute, but not long after, Crandall equalized with a 2-2 game-tying goal in the 63rd minute. The Hurricanes came in clutch in the 86th minute to take a 3-2 lead and ultimately hang on.
The win resulted in the Chargers missing the playoffs.
Sunday, October 19 – 6-1 W vs. Dalhousie Rams
The Hurricanes saved their highest-scoring game of the season for last, dominating the last-place Dalhousie Rams on home turf in the final match in front of their fans at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.
Ahead of the match, nine players were recognized among this year’s graduates, including third-year fullback Colby Munro (New Glasgow, P.E.I.), rookie center back Anthony Pittman (Stephenville, NL), rookie winger Adekola Adedeji (Abuja, Nigeria), second-year goalkeeper Ryan Dickie (Quispamsis, N.B.), second-year midfielders Mateo Osorio (Kitchener, Ontario) and Liam Boswall (Cornwall, P.E.I.), and second-year strikers Lucas Smith (Annapolis Royal, N.S.), Chad McNally (Truro, N.S.), and Nathan Wheeler (Charlottetown, P.E.I.). Congratulations and thank you to all!
“There are a lot of guys moving on, guys who have given a lot of time and commitment to this program. It’s been a rough two years for them in terms of not being able to get that chance at the playoffs, but I’m certainly happy and proud of the culture they instilled within the team and the players. I think it’s going to have a lasting effect on the first years who are here to carry it on. Even above winning, they’ve set a better foundation for the future,” Vos said.
Adedeji (2), Wheeler, Boswall, and Osorio all took turns scoring goals, with rookie center back Walid Ekouma Lema (Cameroon) adding one for his first career ACAA goal. Dickie and fellow second-year goalkeeper Kole MacWilliams (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) shared time in net, with the latter making some spectacular saves in the second half.
Holland’s final regular-season record is 4-8-0, culminating in 12 points, two back of MSVU for the fourth and final playoff spot. Dalhousie returned home with a winless campaign and no postseason appearance.
We would like to thank everybody for their support of the men’s soccer club all season long!

FootballIn one of the most dramatic Hurricanes football games ever contested, the Hurricanes (3-3) pulled off a hard-fought stunner against the league-leading University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds (4-2) in front of their fans on Saturday, Oct. 18, snapping the Reds’ hopes of entering the AFL playoffs as the first seed.
The rainy weather at the UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place in Charlottetown, P.E.I., didn’t faze the players, who put on a show for an electric crowd with a 28-21 victory, coming in clutch multiple times and capitalizing on numerous mistakes by UNB. Head coach Aaron MacIsaac was extremely proud of the crowd’s passion and his team’s efforts against a powerhouse club.
“Playing UNB is always a tough battle. We played them earlier in the year, and we kept it close for a while, but they pulled away. We knew that, coming home, the weather was not going to be in anyone’s favour, but we felt it was in our favour. We know they’re a ground-and-pound team with a big line that is going to run the ball. We had to step up and do the same things. We prepped them and told them this is not going to be an easy, pushover fight.
“We had some key catches, key blocks when we needed them. A total team effort in all three phases (offense, defense, special teams). Every bit of it today worked in our favour. The crowd was into it; our fans are phenomenal, and we’re very lucky that way. I think it’s a difference-maker in the league. I wish we had the rest of the games coming here, but now we’re on the road for the playoffs,” MacIsaac said.
The Reds took charge early in the game, leading 7-0 just past halfway through the first quarter. Holland got to work in the second quarter and executed a much better offensive effort, which saw second-year running back Pierce Saunders (St. Patrick’s, P.E.I.) score a rushing touchdown in the final minute, followed by a good PAT.
Not long after, UNB recorded a quick touchdown to enter the second half with a 10-7 lead. That momentum led to another touchdown and a successful PAT for a 17-7 lead with 7:48 remaining in the third quarter. Seconds later, after a perfectly executed reverse, second-year receiver Mike Henneberry (Halifax, N.S.) ran 72 yards for a Hurricanes touchdown, closing the gap to four points at 17-14. A field goal by UNB with 3:43 remaining would give the Reds a 20-14; that wound up being UNB’s final points of the game.
From late in the third quarter and onward, with a bright rainbow shining in the distance as if it was a symbol of hope, the Hurricanes completed a surge for the ages. It began with a passing touchdown from rookie quarterback Ben Chomolok (Parksville, B.C.) to rookie receiver Mha’ki Hill (Halifax, N.S.) with 48 seconds remaining in quarter three. In the fourth and final quarter, things stayed scoreless till the dying minutes, with Holland fighting hard against UNB’s stout defense. Their big break came with 27 seconds remaining, courtesy of a massive Reds error and an incredible clutch sequence by second-year receiver Keegan Cardona (London, Ontario)
After UNB missed a field goal attempt, Cardona gained ball possession behind the goal posts, successfully made it out of the end zone, broke to the right through heavy traffic, and ran end-to-end, sealing the deal for the biggest touchdown of his career in his final game on Hurricanes turf.
“Keegan (Cardona) has been with us for two years, and he’s electric. He’s dynamic, and we see that. That was huge to put that final nail in the coffin at the end of the game. It’s what we needed today,” MacIsaac said.
Holland concludes the regular season with a 3-3 record, good for third place, while the Reds drop to second, forcing the two teams into a guaranteed rematch in the AFL Championship Semifinals next Saturday, Oct. 25, in Fredericton, N.B. The team that wins that game will fight for gold the following weekend.
“All the pressure is on UNB right now, in my opinion. They came into this game in first place in the league, and we were supposed to go to Dalhousie. They came in, we played them hard, we got the win, so now the momentum shifts to us. We’re going back to Fredericton and we’re just going to play our football, fly around, have fun, and win a football game,” MacIsaac said.

Women’s RugbyThe women’s rugby Hurricanes (2-2) had a rough end to their regular-season campaign, fighting through injuries in a 102-5 loss to the league-leading and unbeaten UNB Reds (4-0) on Sunday, Oct. 19, in Fredericton, N.B.
It was a complete stomping by UNB, who led 52-5 at halftime and kept their foot on the pedal the rest of the way.
Despite the loss, Holland had already clinched second place and home-field advantage for the AFL Women’s Rugby Championship Semifinals next Sunday, Oct. 26, against the Mount Allison Mounties. Holland will vie for their third finals appearance within four years and their first since 2023, when they previously won the championship.

Cross Country RunningThe cross-country Hurricanes met for the third and final time in 2025 ACAA cross-country regular-season competition on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Mapleton Park in Moncton, N.B.
Emilie Doucette (female) and Benjamin Perrin (male) both finished fourth overall in their respective groups. Doucette recorded a 26:13 finish time, a 16-second improvement over the previous meet, with a 1.41-minute difference from first place. Perrin logged a 29:45 finish time with a 1.16 difference from first place.
Katie Astley and Obosaye Idehen joined Doucette on the female team, finishing 14th and 26th, respectively, out of 27 runners. Jay Bauman, Luke Potter, and Dutch Wallace followed Perrin on the male team, placing 13th, 19th, and 30th, respectively, out of 31 runners.
The four men’s combined finishes helped them crack the podium in team results for a season-best third-place finish out of six teams. They beat MSVU by one point and Dalhousie by three points.
Both squads will now prepare for the 2025 ACAA Cross Country Championships next Saturday, Oct. 25, at Victoria Park in Truro, N.S.
