Hurricanes Weekend Preview - October 18-19, 2025
By Reegan MacAulay
The 内射大奶 Hurricanes are gearing up for an important, action-packed weekend after a relaxed Thanksgiving stretch that featured only one game.
In the coming days, every fall sport is ready to do battle for the final time in regular-season competition across two leagues, with numerous must-see games at home and on the road.
Here’s how this season’s first postseason foundations will be set for the Holland Hurricanes across the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) and Atlantic Football League (AFL) on Saturday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Oct. 19.
Women’s SoccerThe women’s soccer Hurricanes (8-1-1) enter an interesting situation this weekend to wrap up their successful regular-season campaign.
While they’re preparing to face the conference’s two worst teams and remain a heavy favourite going into the 2025 ACAA Women’s Soccer Championships, which they host the following weekend, another team will help answer one question: who is the heavier favourite?
Holland and the MSVU Mystics are separated by one point for the conference lead, with the latter having 26 versus Holland’s 25. Both teams will play two games this weekend, with the one that emerges with more total-season points being crowned the regular-season champions and awarded the first seed in the playoffs.
To make things even more intriguing, they won’t be playing each other, so the rest of the conference will decide some fates that could play a significant factor come playoff time. There is no time to underestimate; this is the time for the Hurricanes to make another statement.
Saturday, October 18th - @ Crandall University Chargers (6:00 p.m.)
The Hurricanes will start their upcoming stretch with a trip to Crandall University in Moncton, N.B., on Saturday to face the seventh-ranked Crandall Chargers (0-11-0) at the Rocky Stone Field at 6:00 p.m. Crandall has totalled only four goals after 11 games and heads into their regular-season finale hoping to end a rough season strong in front of their fans.
The last time Holland played Crandall, the Hurricanes won 4-0 on Sunday, Sept. 21, in Cornwall, P.E.I.
Sunday, October 19th - vs Dalhousie Rams (1:00 p.m.)
Holland will return home to end the regular season and compete in an early-afternoon duel against the sixth-ranked Dalhousie Rams (2-9-0) at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, P.E.I., at 1:00 p.m.
While the Rams haven’t fared out too much better than Crandall, they have won their last two matches, both against the Chargers, after losing nine straight. Dalhousie gave Holland a minor scare with a near-comeback rally in a previous game on Saturday, Sept. 20, but ultimately lost 3-2.
Keep An Eye On…
Karissa George (second-year midfielder, New Glasgow, P.E.I.) - Scored four goals in two games at home between Oct. 4-5. Reached a career-best in goals and points in a single season. Leads the Hurricanes in both categories.
Kristyn Taylor (third-year winger, Travellers Rest, P.E.I.) - Scored three goals in two games at home between Oct. 4-5, including a penalty kick. Tied a career-best in goals and points in a single season and looks to break out of the tie this weekend.
Jordyn Pratt (fourth-year goaltender, Calgary, Alberta) - Has started the team’s last four games, won three of them, and achieved a point in all.

Men’s SoccerThe men’s soccer Hurricanes (2-8-0) look to conclude their regular season on a high note, albeit being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs for a second consecutive season two weekends ago.
Despite the outcome, the squad has, for the most part, kept games close, as showcased in the team’s previous doubleheader at home, which featured one-goal differences. After their close loss to STU on Oct. 5, head coach Jonathan Vos discussed how he hopes his group finishes off the campaign, with an emphasis on character.
“The statement will be, when you take the jersey off at the end of the year, you’re going to leave it in a better place. That means being 100% committed to it all the time. I have no doubt that these guys will do that.”
They will join the women’s team on the road in Moncton, N.B., on Saturday, and at home at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, P.E.I., on Sunday.
Saturday, October 18 - @ Crandall University Chargers (8:15 p.m.)
The sixth-ranked Hurricanes will visit the fourth-ranked Crandall Chargers (4-5-2) on Saturday at the Rocky Stone Field at 8:15 p.m., eager to snap a five-game losing streak dating back to September.
Crandall sits one point above the postseason cutline, with MSVU right behind. Notably, the Chargers have just one game remaining, but the Mystics have two to try to leapfrog Crandall.
Crandall had a season-best weekend in their previous affair last weekend, scoring 10 goals and allowing just one in a doubleheader against Dalhousie. The Chargers previously defeated Holland 2-0 on Sept. 21 in Cornwall, P.E.I., and seek to sweep the regular-season series against the Hurricanes on Saturday.
Sunday, October 19 - vs Dalhousie Rams (3:15 p.m.)
The seventh-ranked Dalhousie Rams (0-11-0) also have one game left, closing out their regular-season campaign with a trip to Prince Edward Island on Sunday. They have yet to win after 11 matches.
Dalhousie hasn’t played on the road since Sept. 28, when they were shut out 5-0 by UKC. Against Holland, the Rams lost 3-2 on Sept. 20 in Truro, N.S. That was Holland’s previous win before their current five-game skid.
Keep An Eye On…
Hatem Al Masri (rookie winger, Daraa, Syria) - A recent Hurricanes Male Athlete of the Week following two home games on Oct. 4-5. Scored a crucial goal against STU and exhibited a fantastic hustle and poise while under pressure.
Kai Nurse (rookie midfielder, O’Leary, P.E.I.) - Major offensive contributor across two home games on Oct. 4-5. Assisted third-year full-back Colby Munro (New Glasgow, P.E.I.) on a spectacular play against UNBSJ, and scored a big goal against STU to keep the team within comeback range.
Kole MacWilliams (second-year goaltender, Charlottetown, P.E.I.) - Despite the recent cold streak, MacWilliams has executed stellar performances in net and made some game-saving stops.

Women’s RugbyThe women’s rugby Hurricanes (2-1) complete their regular-season schedule on Sunday, Oct. 19, with a trip to Fredericton, N.B., to challenge the league-leading and undefeated University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds (3-0).
While mathematically, Holland won’t have enough points to steal championship game-hosting rights from UNB, thus putting them into the semifinals, that won’t dash Holland’s motivation to hand the Reds their first loss of the season and enter the ACAA Women’s Rugby Championship Semifinals with back-to-back victories and critical momentum.
The Hurricanes are coming off a hard-fought 17-12 victory against Mount Allison on Oct. 5 in Sackville, N.B., which solidified a regular-season series sweep against the Mounties heading into their upcoming playoff match. The last time Holland played the Reds, they lost 52-10 on Sept. 21 in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Keep An Eye On…
Hannah Whalen (rookie back row, Vernon Bridge, P.E.I.) - Named the most recent Hurricanes Female Athlete of the Week and earned Hurricanes Player of the Game honours after the Oct. 5 win against the Mounties. Capitalized on aggression, supported her teammates, and continued her integral role at 8-man.
Hannah Somers (rookie full-back/fly half, Summerside, P.E.I.) - Scored two tries against Mount Allison on Oct. 5. Has recorded a try in every game this season thus far and looks to continue the hot streak this Sunday.
Shaiyan Pyrfrom (second-year centre/wing, Charlottetown, P.E.I.) - Scored her first try of the season in the previous game.
Bri Hughes (third-year scrum half, Shamrock, P.E.I.) - Added a two-point conversion in the team’s last game, solidifying a second win for the squad and regular-season series sweep against the Mounties.

Cross Country RunningThe cross-country Hurricanes are prepping for their third and final regular-season meet this Saturday, Oct. 18, in Moncton, N.B.
Hosted by Crandall University, this gathering will set the stage for the 2025 ACAA Championships in Truro, N.S., which is the following weekend.
Notably, both the women’s and men’s squads saw drastic growth and improvement from meet one to meet two, showcasing great progression and an outstanding work ethic amongst the runners.
Keep An Eye On…
Emilie Doucette (female) - Improved her race result (fifth to fourth) and time (27:53.1 to 26:29.0) between the first two meets. Finished just over two minutes behind first place, with a two-second improvement at meet two versus meet one. Also placed first overall in individual results.
Benjamin Perrin (male) - Jumped three positions (ninth to sixth) and improved his first meet time by over two and a half seconds (31:19.3 to 28:54.4). He helped his squad to a tie for fifth out of six teams in team results.
FootballThe football Hurricanes (2-3) are hot off another rout against the Saint John Falcons and ready to avenge the unbeaten UNB Reds (4-1) in one last regular-season home-turf clash on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
While the Hurricanes are already locked into third place in the standings, this upcoming match will be a major opportunity to build momentum and confidence heading into a do-or-die Moosehead Cup semifinal showdown on Oct. 25.
This will be a rematch of a close game on Oct. 5 in Fredericton, N.B., where the Hurricanes gave the Reds a run for their money and didn’t let them get away too easily, but ultimately fell short 36-16.
Keep An Eye On…
Mason MacKenzie (rooking running back, Charlottetown, P.E.I.) - Named the AFL Week 5 Hurricanes Offensive Player of the Week after tallying a career-high three rushing touchdowns against Saint John on Oct. 11.
Brex MacLeod (rookie linebacker, Summerside, P.E.I.) - Named the AFL Week 5 Hurricanes Defensive Player of the Week.
John MacGillivray (rookie defensive back, Hamilton, Ontario) - Named the AFL Week 5 Hurricanes Special Teams Player of the Week. He notably scored a spectacular 43-yard field goal in the team’s win against Saint John on Oct. 11, one of the longest in league history.
