AOTW | Karissa George & Owen Parsons Named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s basketball player Karissa George and men’s basketball player Owen Parsons have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 7, 2025.
George, a second-year guard from New Glasgow, N.S., helped the Hurricanes capture their first home victory of the season against the Crandall University Chargers on Friday, Dec. 5, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Holland defeated Crandall 72-46, exiting the first semester with a two-game winning streak and three wins in their last four games.
George put together an outstanding effort on both the offensive and defensive ends, exhibiting elite versatility across 31 minutes. She led the team with 14 points, going 5-for-11 from the field, 1-for-2 from the three-point line, and 3-for-4 from the free throw line, and added five rebounds, one assist, and an impressive nine steals.
This is her second time being named the Hurricanes Female Athlete of the Week this season, having previously earned the honours during her women’s soccer campaign after the week of Sept. 15-21.
George and the women’s basketball Hurricanes will face Crandall in a rematch on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, in Moncton, N.B., to begin the second semester.

Parsons, a third-year center from Hebbville, N.S., had a strong performance in his team’s final game of the first semester, closing it out with a narrow 77-70 loss to the Crandall University Chargers on Friday, Dec. 5, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
He played 26 minutes, scoring 14 points while going 7-for-10 from the field, and logging nine rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block.
Parsons and the men’s basketball Hurricanes will seek redemption against Crandall in a second-semester opening rematch on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, in Moncton, N.B.
