Women’s volleyball player Maria Moores and men’s volleyball player Brett Macausland have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 26, 2025.
Moores, a third-year outside hitter and first-year Hurricane from Conception Bay South, NL, had a stellar Hurricanes debut in a hard-fought, season-opening 3-1 loss on the road against the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday, Oct. 26 in Saint John, N.B.
Moores recorded 10 kills, two aces, eight digs, two blocks, and a team-high 13 points. Since her transfer from Memorial University, she has made an immediate impact on and off the court.
The women’s volleyball Hurricanes open the home portion of their season this Saturday, Nov. 1, welcoming the STU Tommies to the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I. They will then head to Halifax, N.S., on Sunday, Nov. 2, to face the UKC Blue Devils.

Macausland, a third-year middle from Summerside, P.E.I., led the men’s volleyball Hurricanes to one win in their season-opening doubleheader on the road against the UNBSJ Seawolves this past weekend in Saint John, N.B. After a 3-1 loss on Saturday, Oct. 25, Holland struck back with a 3-1 victory on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Combining both games, Macausland logged 24 kills on 52 attempts with a .411 average hitting percentage, and added seven total blocks, five assists, two aces, and eight digs. While leading in kills and points scored, he was a reliable offensive weapon all weekend.
The men’s volleyball Hurricanes will also begin the home portion of their season this weekend. They will host a rivalry doubleheader against the STU Tommies on Saturday, Nov. 1, and Sunday, Nov. 2, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I. It’ll be a must-see rematch of last year’s ACAA Volleyball Championships semifinals.
